If you have a website that either sells products or services online through an ecommerce portal or gathers personal information such as names and addresses then it is vital that your security for the website is up to date. Hackers are becoming more and more savvy and if there are any vulnerabilities within the site then hackers will often very quickly expose these.
Check that the latest software is being used and speak to your programmer about safeguarding that has been put in place to prevent an attack from happening. You also need to check that all data is stored securely such as encrypted and who has access to this data.
Along with the safety you also need to find out what back ups are in place and the procedure should anything go wrong and the website is taken offline. If the website is backed up every day then it should be a case of simply reinstating it. If the website has been hacked, make sure that it is simply not just reinstated but that the programmer finds out how the hackers got in and fixes the issue to prevent it from happening again next time.
